Mel was cycling along Parkgate Road near the A540 Chester High Road, when a car collided with him.
Mel will be sadly missed by his wife and two children and all his friends at the Birkenhead North End Cycling Club of which he had been a member for 15 years.
My tribute to Mel is to petition the prime minister to introduce tougher penalties for drivers using mobile phones. for your tribute sign on:-

You will always be missed.
I met Melvin, not long after i moved back from Spain about 5 or 6 years ago. My first memory of him was haloween, when there was a knock at Lorna's mum and dad's door, and i answered it, and there was this scary figure standing there with a monster mask on. It was Melvin!
As i knew him, this was Melvin all over, a fun man, without a nasty bone in his body. I will miss him, like everyone else.
Rest in peace Melvin.
miss you dad
Well where do i start... he was my Dad and loseing him has left a huge void in my life, i only had 15 cherished years with my dad and i wish i had more as there are so many times i foresee in my future that will not be the same with out him there. He was taken far to soon. My life is far quieter with out him here and certainly does not contain as many smiles.
I will Love you forever and always
I will always be your little girl.
Miss you so much

Fellow cyclist
I didn't know Mel and I know family and friends have sent condolences, but I just wanted to send my thoughts to his family as a fellow cyclist. We are the minority on the roads and it's always so tragic to the cycling world to hear of such horrific accidents.

"what time is this? If i can get her from the wirral on time you should have no problem". these were usually the words that greated me every morning. I dearly miss that little rant and every other thing that drove me crazy, you singing at the top of your voice, leaving dirty spoons andrubbish from dinner on my work bench and then nag me to tidy up
Thank you Mel for all the good times we all shared at Quinns, memories that i will have forever .
